Arts on the Block achieves its mission by providing paid opportunities to work with established artists/mentors on commissioned artwork and entrepreneurial projects. Arts on the Block: where creative young people set their sights on bright futures!


   

ARTS ON THE BLOCK:
  • Provides meaningful employment and high quality on-the-job training through various artistic media in a year-round arts-based program.
  • Operates within a positive youth development framework, providing professional mentoring and other out-of-school-time asset-building reinforcements. 
  • Increases public awareness of the importance of the arts and arts education. 
  • Enriches the quality of life for the community and contributes to its economic vitality.
  • Supplements and builds upon the learning objectives of Montgomery County Public Schools.
  • Strengthens social skills, builds self confidence, and develops problem solving, reasoning and decision-making skills.
Youth who participate in Arts on the Block grow to be: 
  • Creative individuals who know and believe in themselves and their gifts. 
  • Conscious and skilled creators of future opportunities in education, careers and lives. 
  • Responsible and respectful human beings. 
  • Valuable and effective team leaders, and
  • Active contributors to their communities and society.
